VP of Sales - Specialty Ingredients

Our client is the fastest growing, R&D driven, specialty Ingredient manufacturers based in Europe and they are aggressively expanding into North America. This is an exciting, technologically driven manufacturer, making “better for you” sweeteners with unique applications and “best of class” functionality. The company was started in 2016 and has already won many awards and patents. They started selling in Europe about 18 months ago and are actively expanding into North America.


Based on the expansion into North America, they have an immediate need for an accomplished VP of Sales with specialty ingredients and/or sweetener experience. Our client manufactures markets and sells specialty sweeteners considered “BETTER FOR YOU” but they have other “better for you” ingredients in the R&D pipeline. The company has been in the news frequently and is a highly visible company. Exciting future!

This position will be home based in the US and the location of the Corporate Offices/ R&D Center will likely be built in NC within the next 12-18 months.


The VP of Sales will directly manage the strategic commercial direction of the Specialty Ingredient/Sweetener Business along with a team of professional Regional Account and Business Development Managers for the North American market. The VP of Sales MUST have above average leadership and communication skills and be strategically driven! Should have a strong track record growing sales/business and managing a successful commercial team. Start-up and business integration experience would be a big plus.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct all specialty ingredients/ sweetener sales while managing and developing a direct sales and commercial team.

  • Manage key customer relationships and negotiate customer agreements that deliver against annual operating plans

  • Create sustainable growth for company and customers.

  • Manage and strengthen customer relationships with Company, including overseeing all customer activities in accordance with customer segmentation guidelines.

  • Complete commercial agreements with customers in compliance with Companies guidelines.

  • Develop and execute strategic plan to optimize the use all of the companies technologies. Secure agreement and execute pricing plans.

  • Manage and develop a direct sales team.

  • Provide input to and ensure staff compliance with all applicable companies’ systems/processes. .Participate in the development, implementation and achievement of annual budgets.

  • Monitor any variances and work closely with the Sales Operations team to improve overall customer satisfaction.

  • Analyze business trends to develop business growth strategy and manage total opportunity pipeline

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have a BA/BS degree. Having a technical degree like Food Science, Nutrition, Biology, Chemistry or similar science degree is a plus

  • Must have 10+ years of value added Ingredients Sales experience

  • Knowledge of sweetener applications and having relationships with Bakery Manufacturers would be ideal

  • Must have prior experience calling on the largest, global key accounts

  • Start up and expansion experience is a big plus!

  • Experience working for with a European Manufacturer would be helpful

  • Must have a strong technical aptitude and history of selling value added ingredients.

  • Must have a stable work history and good reputation within the industry.

  • Must be organized, motivated, polished and have exceptional communication and selling skills (written and verbal)

  • Must have experience managing a P&L and working closely with R&D

  • Must be willing and able to travel domestically and internationally.
