Senior Applications Scientist - Functional Ingredients
Our client is a newly formed joint venture based in the Orlando, FL area, between two well established, global food and ingredient manufacturers. Based on this joint venture, they are seeking to hire an experienced Senior Application Scientist to focus on incorporating specialty health/functional ingredients into different food and beverage products. The Senior Applications Scientist will report directly to the VP of R&D based outside the US and dotted line to the GM based in Florida. This key R&D role is focused on ingredients applications but will be involved in new product development too. The Senior Applications Scientist will lead the development work including; evaluating the physical, chemical and sensorial properties, as well as the processing requirement, in connection with the integration of the health/functional ingredient into the F&B products.
Lead the applications development work in the lab
Develops/implements/executes technical action plans for specific projects.
Designs proper experiments and conducts the experiments and data analysis in support of project objectives.
Help set up, purchase equipment and maintain the applications lab
Scale up and commercialize new products from concept to commercialization
Act as the point of contact for customers on applications related issues and attend trade shows
Integration of health/ functional ingredients into final application
Build and maintain a database of “know how” in various applications, maintains up to date knowledge of manufacturer, composition and functionality of food ingredients as related to specified products
Communicates results to appropriate levels within the organization to meet business objectives.
Identify innovative solutions to challenges related with the application work
Must have at least a B.S in Food Science , Food Engineering or similar Science
Must have a minimum of 5-7 years’ of hands-on R&D Ingredient applications experience.
Must have experience working with nutritional – functional ingredients used in beverages, Food and/or Nutraceuticals.
Must have solid Leadership capabilities and be able to move into a Management role as the company gains traction.
Must be able to read and analyze formulas, specifications, and processes; collect and analyze data, and perform formula calculations
Ideal candidate will have some experienced working with beverages and/or nutraceuticals/dietary supplements.
Ability to read and write standard operating procedures and/or work instructions
Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
Working knowledge of food-related requirements such as: GMP’s, HACCP, SOP’s, SQF, FDA, and USDA
Knowledge of Microsoft Office and general competency in computer operation
