Senior Analytical Chemist - Flavors/Fragrances

Our client is an industry leader in the Manufacturing of Flavors and Fragrances sold throughout the globe. They are growing and need to add an experienced Senior Analytical Chemist to their team. The Senior Analytical Chemist prepares, analyzes, interprets results, and reports on samples submitted to the lab for instrumental testing. Samples include consumer goods, raw materials, fresh culinary preparations, and botanicals. Evaluation of these materials requires one or more extraction, and chromatographic techniques. Analytical Services supports project from the flavor and fragrance divisions.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Operates independently in the selection of techniques for sample preparation and chromatographic analysis

  • Interprets and report results to appropriate customer

  • Collaborate with Perfumers and Flavorist to understand and facilitate project objectives

  • Operates, maintain, and repair chromatographic instrumentation including GC-FID, GC-MS, and HPLC.

  • Develops new analytical protocols as needed

  • Participate in organoleptic evaluations as determined by the Sensory Department.

  • Maintains a secure, clean and safe work environment

  • Adhere to all organizational safety guidelines.


Requirements


  • Must have at least a Bachelor’s degree

  • Must have at least 7 years of related Analytical Chemistry experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Must have strong analytical skills in chromatographic and sampling techniques. This includes GC-FID, GC-MS, HPLC, SPME, dynamic/ static headspace, and thermal desorption

  • Should be Experience in the troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing chromatographic/laboratory equipment

  • Effective problem solving abilities

  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Should be self-motivated, detail-orientated, able to work independently, or in a team environment

  • Must have a fundamental understanding of chromatographic techniques including GC, GC-MS, HPLC, SPME, thermal desorption and headspace

  • Should have strong mechanical ability for, troubleshooting, maintaining and repairing chromatographic /laboratory equipment and software

  • Chromatographic interpretation to support duplication process.

  • Routine work with chemicals including industrial solvents, flavor and fragrance compounds.

  • Ability to work with pressurized gases and cryogenic liquids.

  • Ability to work with and around hot and cold surfaces

  • Demonstrated strong problem solving skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office – Outlook, Word and Excel – required

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
