SAFETY & TRAINING MANAGER Manufacturing – Northern, IL
Our client is a Nutritional Dairy Ingredients Manufacturer based north of Freeport in Northern IL. Based on their growth, they are seeking to hire an experienced SAFETY & TRAINING MANAGER for their solo plant location with approximately 60 employees.
The Safety & Training Manager will lead the Companies Safety and Training program to ensure that employee safety and compliance standards/regulations are communicated, trained and become part of the culture.
RESPONSIBILITES
Collaborate with leadership team on health and safety reporting, audits, risk assessments and continuous improvement
Serve as an educator to the team, creating a safety focused approach to the work day
Develop and enhance company safety policies
Develop, manage, and provide new hire employee training
Develop, manage, and provide Continuing Education (CE) for all site employees
Collaborate with floor supervisors on trainings to maintain a safe environment and to make sure all production training requirements are met
Create and conduct safety and environmental trainings, including weekly meetings, ad hoc trainings, and refreshers
Manage proper forklift handling training
Maintain all safety and environmental permits and licenses
Prepare and conduct audits for facility
Manage all accident/ incident investigations, taking proper measures to identify root causes and further prevention
Maintain all OSHA logs and reporting
Work with Human Resources on worker’s compensation cases, maintain all proper documentation
Complete monthly health and safety tracker to be submitted to executives
Record all safety objectives, aligned with monthly reports, including but not limited to good catches, near misses, behavioral observations
Conduct environmental walkabouts/audits, include leaders for monthly observations
Submitting reports and data to all federal, state and local agencies in a timely manner as mandated. Act as liaison for federal, state and local agencies
Conduct risk assessments
Assist with ordering, tracking, and maintaining all PPE for employees
Assess costs to the company from safety incidents and report to management to facilitate decision making
Schedule and facilitate training sessions as needed
Write and monitor SOP guide on equipment and training procedures to keep equipment running properly and efficiently using Microsoft programs.
Implement SOPs onto production floor, collaborating with Supervisors and colleagues.
Must be able to determine the best process to use for each job and define the tooling and fixtures.
Support the writing and implementing SOPs and Safety policies that are up to OSHA, Illinois, BRC and Company Standards.
REQUIREMENTS
Must have BS/BA degree in Safety, Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene or similar field.
Must have at least 3 years’ of HEALTH & SAFETY experience in a Manufacturing environment.
Experience in the Food, Beverage, Ingredient, Flavor, Chemical or Pharmaceutical industries is a PLUS
Must have training experience, continuous improvement, process improvement experience etc.
Professional certification in field highly desirable (e.g. PE, CSP, etc.)
Must have a high level of conceptual and analytical thinking and ability.
Prefer candidates that have some knowledge of US - OSHA regulations as they relate to general industry. Also cursory knowledge of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards, US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations is desired.
Must have good communication, social and advisory skills required.
Must have advanced computing skills in Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook)
