QUALITY CONTROL SUPERVISOR - Food Ingredients

2nd Shift - Des Plaines, IL


SUMMARY


Our client is an award winning specialty ingredient manufacturer based in the Des Plaines, IL area. Due to a recent promotion, they are seeking to hire a second shift Quality Control Supervisor. The QC Supervisors’ responsibilities are analysis of raw materials and production materials to ensure compliance with literature and/or derived specs in the extended work hours. The QC Supervisor will act as a lead for quality non-conformance issues and assisting second shift with resolving any arising issues and concerns. This position will oversee and delegate the workload to the assigned shift employees under discretionof the Quality Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Approve raw materials and finished goods for use.

  • Train new shift personnel on company and department procedureseases of finished goods and ingredients

  • Maintain cleanliness of the department and area

  • Train new shift personnel on company and department procedures

  • Identify the daily needs of the secondary shift and assign duties to the technician/s as needed

  • Ensure smooth flow of the department, designate and re-assign work load as deemed necessary with assistance of Quality Manager.

  • Assist Quality Manager with customer complaint investigations.

  • Assist with secondary vendor approval testing

  • Take leadership for disposition of out of specification material, determine reasons for non-conformance.

  • Initiate ongoing improvement and expansion of the department

  • Perform and report Shelf Life studies.

  • Assisting with new product implementation and maintenance/support

  • organoleptic evaluation of materials - assist in determination of origin of any discrepancies, report discrepancies to Quality Control Manager as needed.

  • Determination of physical values of materials, chromatographic compliance, as detailed in Quality Control procedural manual

  • Report discrepancies to Quality Control Manager and assist in determination of origin.

  • Calibration of instrumentation

  • Must have technical ability to run GC's and perform preventatives maintenance of instrumentation as detailed within the technical manuals.

  • Adhere to safety guidelines within the workplace.

  • Handle special projects as deemed necessary and assigned by Quality Manager


REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have a BS degree required in Biology, Chemistry or similar related field (will consider candidates without if they have 5 years in Quality Control experience in similar food manufacturer)

  • Must be able to work on the 2nd shift

  • Must have above average communication skills both (written and spoken)

  • Must have at least 3 years of hands on QA/QA experience with a food, ingredient or pharmaceutical manufacturer

  • Prefer candidates with SQF or BRC experience

  • Prefer candidates with 1 yr of supervisory experience but will consider candidates without with 5 yrs experience)

  • Company prefers applicants from the Chicago-land area but will consider qualified Midwest based candidates who can easily to relocate to the Chicago area.
