DIRECTOR OF SALES – Specialty Ingredients
West Coast Region
Our client is one of the fastest growing, most exciting Specialty Ingredient/Sweetener manufacturer based in Europe and they are aggressively expanding into North America. This company is a technologically driven manufacturer, making “better for you” sweeteners with unique applications and “best of class” functionality. The company was started in 2016 and has already won many awards and patents. They started selling in Europe about 18 months ago and are actively expanding into North America.
Based on the expansion into North America, they have an immediate need for an accomplished DIRECTOR of Sales for the West Coast region. They manufacturer, market and sell a specialty sweetener considered “BETTER FOR YOU” but they have other “better for you” ingredients in the pipeline. The company has been in the news frequently and is a highly visible company. Exciting!
This position will be home based from any State/location on the West Coast, Colorado, Texas etc. The Corporate offices are being purchased/built in Texas within the next 12 months
The Director of Sales will directly manage key customers in the West Coast region (West of Mississippi) and will manage a team Account Managers. The Director of Sales MUST be passionate, strategically driven with above average leadership and communication skills! Should have a strong track record growing sales with a specialty ingredients or flavor manufacturer. Start-up and business integration experience would be a plus.
Direct all specialty ingredients/ sweetener sales while managing and developing a a regional account manager sales team.
Manage key customer relationships in West Coast region and negotiate customer agreements that deliver against annual operating plans
Create sustainable growth for company and customers.
Manage and strengthen customer relationships with Company, including overseeing all customer activities in accordance with customer segmentation guidelines.
Complete commercial agreements with customers in compliance with Companies guidelines.
Develop and execute strategic regional plans to optimize the use all of the companies technologies.
Secure agreement and execute pricing plans.
Manage and develop a direct sales team.
Provide input to and ensure staff compliance with all applicable companies’ systems/processes. Participate in the development, implementation and achievement of annual budgets.
Monitor any variances and work closely with the Sales Operations team to improve overall customer satisfaction.
Analyze business trends to develop business growth strategy and manage total opportunity pipeline
Must have at least a BA/BS degree. Maters degree is a plus. Having a technical degree like Food Science, Nutrition, Biology, Chemistry or similar science degree is ideal
Must have 5-10 years of Specialty (value added) Ingredient/ Flavors or Sweetener Sales experience
Knowledge of sweetener applications, functionality and having relationships with Bakery and Confectionary Manufacturers would be a plus
Must have prior experience calling on key accounts in the region
Start up and expansion experience is a big plus!
Experience working for with a European Manufacturer would be helpful
Must have a strong technical aptitude and history of selling value added ingredients and/or flavors.
Must have a stable work history and good reputation within the industry.
Must be organized, motivated, polished and have exceptional communication and selling skills (written and verbal)
Must have experience managing a P&L and working closely with R&D
Must be willing and able to travel domestically and maybe internationally .
