Applications Manager – Nutritional Ingredients

The R&D Applications Manager will represent the company to assigned customers in the North and South America markets and will report directly to the VP of Sales - Human Nutrition & Health. Success in this position requires strong relationship building skills, technical competence in the savory, flavors, food grade amino acids, sports nutrition industries, and dietary supplements with strong analytical skills and ability to collaborate with teammates to drive collective results.


Responsibilities

  • Support Sales team to sell products using technical, organizational and customer knowledge to influence customers and assist them in applying the products to their needs, resulting in revenue generation

  • Ascertain the wants and needs of our customers, promote relevant products, and demonstrate how the products function

  • Act as liaison to coordinate information and service between the end user of a product and the sales representatives.

  • Identify sales opportunities by analyzing and summarizing information and trends related to the competitors.

  • Develop and implement key account strategies which drive and maintain customer satisfaction.

  • Attends trade shows, conferences and industry related events as needed

  • Keep informed of and collaborate with company leadership on product development, research activity, food industry market trends

  • Contribute to marketing and strategic planning with key insights into technical trends and issue facing customers in the market.

  • Develop and execute research and clinical trials for amino acids and other nutritional supplement ingredient. Document product performance and supports information/data to customers.

  • Create reports on regular bases and as needed.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements


  • Must have at least a BA/BS degree preferable in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology or similar science.

  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of technical/R&D experience working with Ingredients and/or Flavors. Ideally nutritional ingredients, flavors or food grade amino acids sold into these segments; Savory segment, Sports Nutrition, Nutritional/Dietary Supplements, Pharmaceuticals or Pet Foods.

  • Prefer candidate with knowledge/experience referencing “clinical trial studies” in presenting supporting information/data to customers

  • Must have general knowledge of various manufacturing equipment preferred.

  • Prefer candidates with a solid background/knowledge in cooking, building flavors, and flavor interactions preferred.

  • Must have good computer skills, i.e., Microsoft Office Suite; SalesForce.com and Genesis (nutritional software).

  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality and interact at multiple levels and departments in large, complex organizations.

  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively and participate in a continuous improvement culture, including problem solving skills.

  • Must be able to work with various ingredient suppliers to source ingredient samples and help manage inventory in lab preferred.

  • Should have a strong business acumen and interpersonal profession interaction, fluency in project processes and problem solving, good lab practices and presentation skills.

  • Must have strong formulation and product processing skill in various nutritional products, including but not limited to: Bars, Gummies, Beverages, Powdered Mixes, and translating to scale-up (on commercial equipment).

  • Must have the capability to perform basic sensory evaluation and testing.

  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to present technical data.

  • Should have a willingness to perform general lab duties in a shared workspace; strong organizational skills, especially in limited workspace setting preferred.
